![]() Housing Options Click here for a complete timeline of all Residential Life housing options for the 2009-2010 academic year. PLEASE NOTE: For the purpose of housing selection, class status for 2009-2010 is determined by the number of units that a student has earned at the end of the Fall 2008 semester. This is because we cannot predict how many units students will earn during the spring semester when housing assignments are made. Seniors are students who have earned 20.01 or more units as of Fall 2008; Juniors are students who have earned 12.01 - 20.01 units as of Fall 2008; Sophomores are students who have earned less than 12.00 units as of Fall 2008. While these numbers are slightly different than those used by the Registrar's Office to determine class standing, they reflect the approximate number of units needed to be considered "on track" for graduation in spring of 2010. Off Campus Housing Lottery » Off campus lottery applications are currently available. Applicants may apply individually or in groups of up to four students. Priority will be given to students with senior status, 20.01 credits at the end of the Fall 2008 semester. Fraternity members must also obtain permission from the house corporation in order to apply for the off campus lottery. We expect to release a limited number of students off campus during the lottery. Small Living Units (SLUs) » Visit our SLU page to learn more about this unique opportunity at OWU and the SLU selection process. Single Rooms » A limited number of single rooms are available in Smith East, Stuyvesant and Welch Halls. Some singles are in a suite while others are "pure" single rooms. Single rooms are awarded to upperclassmen who apply. Single rooms cost slightly more than the regular room rate (the 2009-2010 single room rate will be determined some time in February 2009). Austin Manor » Austin Manor provides apartment-style living in an intergenerational environment for 20 students. A limited number of 4-person (2-bedroom) and 2-person (studio) apartments are available for students who apply. All rooms have a private bathroom and a small kitchen. There is an interview process for Austin Manor applicants. Priority is given to students who apply as a group and can fill a room completely. Welch Hall » Welch Hall provides a smoke-free, 24-hour quiet environment for students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Welch has a limited number of single and double rooms, but the majority of Welch rooms are 4-person quads. There is a priority point system used for making Welch Hall assignments; more information about the priority point system can be found here. Wellness/Substance Free » Located in Smith Hall West, the Wellness/Substance Free community is for students who choose a lifestyle without influences of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. All rooms in Wellness/Substance Free are 4-person quads, therefore students should apply as a group of four. Priority is given to students who apply as a group and can fill a room completely. There is a short essay requirement for students requesting this housing option (see page 2 of the standard application). Depending on the level of interest, any remaining rooms in Smith West not assigned through the Wellness/Substance Free process will be made available during general housing selection. General Housing » Any student who has not been assigned to one of the previously mentioned housing options must apply for general housing selection. Rooms will be available in Hayes, Smith and Stuyvesant. Hayes and Smith rooms are 4-person quads. Stuyvesant consists of double rooms joined by a shared bathroom. General housing selection will take place on Wednesday, April 8 in the HWCC Benes Rooms; students will attend this event to select a room for the 2009-2010 academic year. Priority is given to students who apply as a group and can fill a room completely. Bashford and Thomson Halls will house the YearOne community for the 2009-2010 academic year, therefore returning students will not be able to select rooms in Bashford or Thomson Halls at housing selection. |
